“Fifty Years of Latin American Art” exhibition opens at the Neuberger Museum of Art
The Neuberger Museum of Art, which is located iat Purchase College New York has released it’s latest exhibition titled “Fifty Years of Latin American Art”. The museum, which is renowned for its collection of modern, contemporary, and African art have collated a vast array of artwork containing almost 60 unique pieces. The exhibition runs from today Tuesday the 28th of February through to Wednesday 30th May 2012, with the opening reception being held on Monday 5th of March, starting at 6pm.
The 1960’s collection boasts prized pieces from infamous artists such as;
Manuel Álvarez Bravo
Born February 4, 1902 – October 19, 2002, Mexican Manuel came from a family full of artists and was himself a photographer with work widely displayed around the globe.
Wifredo Lam
Born December 8, 1902 – September 11, 1982, Wilfredo’s full name is Wifredo Óscar de la Concepción Lam y Castilla. Wifredo was a Cuban Painter, also working with sculptures and ceramics.
Roberto Matta
Born November 11, 1911 – November 23, 2002, Roberto’s full name is Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren. Roberto was a Chilean Painter or surrealist artwork..
José Clemente Orozco
Jose was born November 23, 1883 – September 7, 1949. He was a Mexican realist painter who concentrated the bulk of his professional life to the creation of extremely bold murals.
Rufino Tamayo
Born August 26, 1899 – June 24, 1991, Rufino was a Mexican painter of Zapotec heritage. A Rufino painted titled ‘Tres Personajes’ was stolen from the owner in 1970. It was subsequently found in a trash can and after 4 years of research, sold at auction for $1,049,000 with the finder receiving a $15,00 reward plus a share of the sale price.
Carlos Cruz-Diez
Born August 17, 1923 in Caracas Venezuelan, Carlos currenlt resides in Paris, France where he is a kinetic artist, which is art that contains moving parts or depends on motion for its effect.
José Luis Cuevas
José was born February 26, 1934 in Mexico City, Mexico and has many trade titles under his belt. Such as a modernist painter, printmaker, sculptor, and writer
There are many other artists featured in the exhibition and a selection of contempary artists such as Julio Antonio, Arturo Duclos, Nicolás De Jesús, Carlos Garaicoa, Eduardo Mac Entyre, Arturo Mallmann, and Gerardo Suter to name a few.
